THE RAILWAY
Ryde

When the railways were first built quite a number of breweries opened pubs close to the stations. Enthusiastic for this new age of travel - new vistas, new horizons for everybody - many of these houses have railway in their names. There is still a railway running through Ryde, but the sign on this house shows the old steam engines which ceased to run on the island many years ago.
