Isle of Wight Nostalgia - Memories

From Pamela Sansom who honeymooned at the Old Park Hotel, St. Lawrence.

My husband and I were married on 14 June, 1958 and spent an idyllic honeymoon on the IOW. On disembarking from the ferry, we took a never-to-be-forgotten train journey from Ryde to Ventnor. It was dusk and the country side was covered in floating white mist - eerie and beautiful.

We had an erratic taxi ride to Old Park Hotel, St. Lawrence - the driver really tore through the very dark and twisty lanes! We arrived only to find that we had lost the key to our suitcases - the staff were very understanding! We had a hired car and toured round most of the Island and enjoyed it so much, we returned the following year.

I still have the Pine cone which I saved from the area, as fresh as the day I found it!
