Isle of Wight Nostalgia - Carisbrooke Castle


The only medieval castle on the Island, until 1944 the official residence of the Island's Governor. Famous visitors to the castle include William the Conqueror and Charles I. There are two medieval wells in the castle, one of which is powered by donkeys trained to walk in a large wooden winding wheel which raises or lowers the water bucket. There is a museum housed in the Great Hall and displays items connected with the history of the castle.
