The Blackgang Garden Railway - rolling stock - Sandrock

Royal Sandrock Hotel Isle of Wight

The shunter is to be named "Sandrock" after the Royal Sandrock Hotel that used to be in Niton near Blackgang, Isle of Wight. The hotel was once famous and visited by Queen Victoria. Rudyard Kipling stayed there (as did I in 1979). Once on the main road from Ventnor to Blackgang, following a major landslip the road was diverted and the hotel gradually declined. Sadly it burned down in 1984.
